How to Install a Missing TrueType Font on XP

Whether it's a TrueType font or a font of another format, installing fonts missing from the Windows XP operating system is simple, quick and painless. TrueType fonts have .ttf file extensions.

  1. Fonts

    • Ensure that the font file you want to install is on a drive running on the computer receiving the installation. The font file can be on your hard drive, a CD, a flash drive or other storage device. If you do not have a copy of the file, you may have to download a copy from the Internet.

    Before Installation

    • Be sure of the font file's location so you can easily select and drag it. Let's assume that the font file is in your "My Documents" folder. Double-click on the "My Documents" folder. Re-size and position the window so you can have another open window right next to it. To help ensure a trouble-free process, it's a good idea to exit any other running applications before proceeding.

    Font Installation

    • Click on the "Start" button at the lower-left corner of your screen. Click on the "Control Panel" icon to open it. Locate the "Fonts" folder icon and open it by double-clicking it. Re-size and position the "Fonts" window next to the open "My Documents" window containing the font file you want to install. Click and hold on the font file inside "My Documents," drag it to the "Fonts" window and drop it inside. Close the "Fonts" window. The installation is complete.
