When Is Zucchini Ripe to Pick?

Harvest zucchini every couple days during the season.

Zucchini is a fast-growing summer squash that can add color and flavor to a variety of dishes. Zucchinis develop very quickly, so check your plant daily for squash that is ready to harvest.

Time Frame

Zucchini plants can begin to produce in as few as 50 days after germination. After flowers appear on the plant, zucchini can be ready to harvest in two to five days.

Identification

Ripe zucchini are about 6 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. Zucchini should have soft, green outer skin and flesh should be firm and creamy with small seeds.

Warning

Zucchini that is left on the plant too long can develop a woody texture. Pick young zucchini for the best flavor. Regular harvests will also encourage the plant's production.
