What Is Bento for Mac?

Bento is a line of database software programs designed by FileMaker Inc. for Mac OSX. The program utilizes templates and integrates with other applications such as iCal and Address Book.

  1. History

    • Version 1 of Bento appeared at the beginning of 2008, with a preview program that came out shortly before in 2007. Late 2008 and 2009 saw the release of versions 2 and 3 respectively. At the time of this writing, Bento 3 is the most recent edition.

    Templates

    • Bento is heavily based on a pre-constructed library of templates, which are organized by category and context. Users can swap templates with one another through file-sharing. Additional templates are available for download (see resources).

    Capabilities

    • Bento can import data from other programs such as Excel spreadsheets. It also allows you to add and remove fields of all different types, including text, numbers, dates, email addresses, and check boxes. Users can also make smart collections of records that are organized by criteria you defined.
