About Export Documentation
Export documentation is any documentation needed to legally export goods to another country for sale. Specific documents are sometimes required for certain products and by certain destinations, but most exports require the same basic documentation.
-
Common Requirements
-
There are several common documents required in the majority of export situations. These include an Airway bill, a bill of lading, a commercial invoice, an export packing list and an electronic export information form.
Proof of Origin
-
Some countries require that proof of origin be provided, usually in the form of a Certificate of Origin (CO). In some cases, the CO must be a notarized document that has been certified by a local chamber of commerce.
-
Other Requirements
-
Specific goods sometimes have export requirements that go above and beyond the standard. Exports classified as dangerous -- such as HAZMAT shipments -- must be accompanied by a Dangerous Goods Certificate. Food and pharmaceutical products require a Certificate of Analysis.
