Windows XP Privacy Policy
Microsoft Windows is a widely used operating system, and the Microsoft company has always had a privacy policy. Microsoft uses the personal information it collects when you register a product to help promote and develop products that computer-saavy consumers want.

Personal Information
-
Registering your Windows XP operating system gives Microsoft permission to use the information you provide. Microsoft uses this information for market research and advertising. While Microsoft claims that it does not sell your personal information to other vendors, it does work with outside companies to track the trends of consumers.
Tracking Cookies
-
Surfing the Internet with a Microsoft-based browser like Internet Explorer or Bing allows Microsoft to monitor which sites you visit. You do have the option to not send this information to the company, however. Usually after you first install your browser, you will see a pop-up asking if you would like to participate. You can accept or decline.
Unsubscribing
-
Asking Microsoft to remove you from participation is simple. At the bottom of every Microsoft email, you have the option to stop participating in their research. Microsoft is usually very good at removing users from their research projects.
