Soil for a Venus Fly Trap
The Venus fly trap is a carnivorous plant that lives in poor soil conditions in swamps and bogs. Keeping a fly trap indoors does require some special care and soil preparations if the plant is going to survive. Does this Spark an idea?

Venus fly traps are active trapping plants because they have moving parts. The green leaves close when the tiny hairs inside are triggered by an insect landing on them. After the leaves close, the insect is slowly digested. Venus fly traps get nutrients and nitrogen from insects instead of the soil.

The medium must mimic bogs and swamps. Peat moss without any additives and perlite in equal amounts will give the plant the poor soil conditions it is used to in the wild. The medium must be wet, and the peat moss will soak up the water and keep the roots as wet as needed.

Potting Soil and Fertilizer

Fertilizer can kill a Venus fly trap. Potting soil is rich in nutrients, which the fly trap does not need. The potting soil can burn the roots and kill the Venus fly trap.
