Canine Worms & Lawn Sanitation
It is important for dog owners to pick up the feces of their dogs from lawns. Dog feces attract insects like flies, but they also harbor parasitic worms. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Types
-
Dog feces often contain the eggs and larvae of roundworms (also called ascarids) and hookworms. These worms can be transmitted to people, especially those walking in bare feet.
Misconception
-
Even if dogs or puppies have been treated for worms, their feces still may contain roundworm eggs, larvae or adult worms that could infect a person, cat or another dog. This is because one dose of worming medication rarely can kill all of the worms living in a dog's body.

Laws
-
Some towns and cities have "pooper scooper" laws for dog owners to always pick up dog feces and dispose of them in a toilet or trash can. These laws were developed in order to halt the spread of worms from dogs to people.
