Motion Flood Light Problems

An outdoor motion sensor flood light provides welcome assistance when returning home after dark. The light also acts as a deterrent for burglars and illuminates unwanted vermin and stray animals. These sensor lights are useful, but sometimes operating problems can occur. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Bulbs

    • The bulbs inside motion sensor flood lights are prone to blowing. If your light is not working, open the front casing and check to make sure that the bulb is not black along the glass. Change the bulb if the glass is discolored, but do not touch the new bulb with bare fingers, as the moisture from your skin can damage the bulb.

    Dirt and Obstructions

    • You should also check the flood light's sensor to ensure that it is clean and free from dirt. The sensor will not work if it is blocked or the view is obscured by objects such as overhanging plants and tree branches.

    Water

    • The casing and wiring of the flood light should also be checked to ensure that they are fully insulated and watertight. Moisture in the light casing can turn to steam from the heat of the bulb and cause it to blow.
