Dr. Samuel Prescott was one of the High Sons of Liberty who served as a courier to Patriots in the Lexington and Concord area during the American Revolution.

Early Life

Prescott was born in 1751 to Abigail Brigham and Dr. Abel Prescott; he trained as a physician.

Colonial Activity

Prescott was active during the Colonial period, helping move supplies needed for the revolt against the British through Concord and Lexington. He met with his fiancée on the evening of April 18, 1775 in Lexington, and at 1 a.m. on the 19th, left by horseback for Concord, where he met with Paul Revere and William Dawes. With those two, he carried the message that the British were coming; but unlike Revere, did not get captured. Prescott was the primary courier of the message.

Revolutionary War Activities & Death

Prescott served as a physician in the Continental Army and served in General Arnold's disastrous Lake Champlain campaign. He was captured and held in Fort Ticonderoga, where he died.
