What Does F.A.C.S. Mean?
FACS means a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. It is an acronym following the name of a surgeon, indicating that his credentials meet the standards of the association.

The credentials evaluated by the College, the world's largest association of surgeons, include education and training, surgical qualifications and competence, and ethical conduct. The total membership numbers about 77,000. Over 4,000 are based in countries outside the U.S., according to FACS.org.
Activities

Fellows participate in self-assessment and continuing education programs like the Clinical Congress to keep their skills and knowledge current. They also help train other health care personnel in trauma care and help educate lawmakers and the public about surgical care and procedures.

Resident and Associate Fellows

Before a surgeon is eligible for FACS membership, the College offers a resident membership to surgical residents taking an accredited graduate program in surgery and an associate fellowship to those who will graduate within five years from surgical residency. RAS-ACS membership refers to both categories.
