Auto Damage Appraisal Training

Auto Damage Appraisal Training thumbnail
Auto damage appraisal involves the assessment of collision damage.

Automobile damage appraisal training consists of instruction in the assaying, evaluation and calculation of monetary costs of damage to vehicles as a result of accidents. Insurance companies employ appraisers to adequately fulfill claims and use the information attained to make policy adjustments.

  1. Scope

    • Many automobile damage appraisers have a background in collision repair, which facilitates the evaluation of damaged vehicles. Therefore, the courses involved in appraisal training programs rely heavily on clerical studies, such as learning the nomenclature of automotive components, laws and regulations pertaining to insurance and how to write accurate and timely estimates for collision repair. Other topics include frame damage, collision diagnosis and cost estimation.

    Duration

    • Program length depends on the training provider and subject matter covered. For instance, the National Appraisal Institute in Chatsworth, California, offers a comprehensive auto damage appraisal course that consists of 48 hours of instruction over 12 weeks. The Northeastern College of Professional Studies in Massachusetts offers a 60-hour course over 10 weeks, available at five campus locations.

    Cost

    • According to the Northeastern University College of Professional Studies' website, the cost of its auto damage appraisal course is $695, as of October, 2010. The National Appraisal Institute's course costs $4,800, according to its website.
