The Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Technical Education Center and the Johnson County Community College (JCCC), located approximately 15 minutes away in Overland Park, offer HVAC training. The HVAC training at KCKCC consists of a certification program, while JCCC offers three certificate programs and two associate's degree programs. JCCC offers certificate programs and Associate of Applied Science degrees in HVAC Commercial Service Technician and HVAC Residential Service Technician, as well as a certification program in HVAC Installation Technician.

KCKCC's Heating and Refrigeration program lasts 11 months, and JCCC's certification programs last one year. The Associate of Applied Science programs from JCCC take 64 credit hours to complete.

As of October 2010, KCKCC Technical Education Center charges $60 per credit hour for in-state residents and $262 for out-of-state residents. JCCC charges $75 per credit hour for Johnson County Residents, $90 per credit hour for Kansas County residents and $173 for out-of-state residents, as of October 2010.
