When ceiling tiles or walls become infested with mold, either throw them out or clean them with a detergent designed to kill mold and bacteria, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises. The CDC

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), individuals with heightened sensitivity to mold can experience an onset of symptoms such as stuffy nose, irritated eyes, wheezing and skin irritation; those with more severe health problems can even develop mold infections in their lungs. When mold is evident in a property, address it immediately to avoid potential health hazards.
