How to Compare Maglites

How to Compare Maglites thumbnail
Maglites are made tough to withstand water, shock, and corrosion.

Maglite flashlights are durable, adjustable-beam flashlights that come in a variety of sizes. Most Maglites convert to a free-standing candle by unscrewing the top, exposing the bulb, and re-screwing the top onto the bottom. When choosing the Maglite that will work for you, consider some important features.

  1. Size

    • Maglites come in several sizes and widths, requiring 2 AAA batteries for the smallest, up to 6 D batteries for the largest. Mini Maglites range in size from 3 1/2 inches for the key-chain-sized flashlight, up to 5 3/4 inches. Regular Maglites range in size from about 9 inches for the 2-Cell C, up to 19 1/2 inches for the 6-Cell D model.

    Bulb

    • Maglites are available with the original bulb or the new LED option, which will provide a brighter beam and a longer-lasting, energy-efficient light.

    Special Functions

    • The MagCharger model features a rechargeable battery that operates on AC or DC current.
