A head teacher, more commonly known as a principal in western countries, manages a school and its faculty and staff while maintaining high ethical and professional standards.

  1. Teacher Standards

    • A head teacher abides by all the strictures and guidelines that apply to classroom teachers along with those rules that cover head teachers specifically.

    Professional Standards

    • The head teacher's primary task is to enforce the code of professional conduct as it applies to the teachers under his supervision. This includes maintaining high educational standards, enrolling students into the institution, collecting fees when applicable, paying salaries, maintaining the school's budget and records, and handling disputes that may occur among staff members and students.

    Ethical Standards

    • In all things, a head teacher should make the education and well-being of students her first priority. Furthermore, head teachers are bound by the law to implement the policies of the school board as well as state, local and national laws to the best of their abilities. In addition, a head teacher should seek to improve herself professionally and to fulfill her duties in a trustworthy, responsible manner.
