Wine producing regions can be found worldwide, from Canada to South Africa. Tourists flock to these regions attracted by the beauty of the vineyards and the opportunity for wine tasting. One way to enjoy a region's wine country is on a bike tour.

  1. North America

    • One of the most popular wine countries in the world for tourism is Napa Valley, California, with over 4.5 million visitors per year. Bike tours are available in Napa Valley as well as through the vineyards of nearby Sonoma. Other wine country destinations with bike tours include Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada and Yamhill County, Oregon.

    South America

    • Argentina and Chile both have wine-producing regions. A bike tour through Argentina will take you through the vineyards of Mendoza which produces 70 percent of the country's wine. In Chile, you can take a bike tour through the vineyards of the Maipo Valley with a view of the Andes Mountains.

    Europe

    • France and Italy are popular destinations for wine lovers. Bike tours are available in many of the wine making regions of France, including Burgundy and Bordeaux. In Italy, the vineyards of Tuscany and Umbria are among the bike tour destinations.

    South Africa and Israel

    • A South Africa bike excursion will take you to the vineyards and wineries of the Western Cape, including Stellenbosch where nearly a fifth of the country's wine is produced. A bike tour of Israel will take you through coastal and inland vineyards with grape varieties mainly imported from France.

    Australia and New Zealand

    • Wine grapes are grown in regions of South Australia, including Adelaide, where a bike tour will take you to through the vineyards of Barossa Valley, which specializes in Shiraz. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, you may want to take a bike tour of New Zealand's Marlborough wine region.
