Step-by-Step to Eyebrow Threading

Eyebrow threading is an alternative to plucking or waxing

Originating in India, eyebrow threading is an ancient technique used to shape the brow. It is less irritating to the skin than some alternatives like hair-removal creams and is more precise than waxing. Requiring only the use of a cotton thread, it can be done almost anywhere.

Cut the Thread

Cut a piece of thread to about 18 inches. Depending on the size of your hands and your preferences, you might want it slightly longer or shorter.

Tie Together

Tie the two ends of the thread together, forming a loop.

Make a Rectangle

Hold the loop by putting the thumb and forefinger of both hands on opposite sides, then pulling hands out to form a shape resembling a rectangle.

Form a Bow Tie

Twist one side of the loop four or five times, then pull on the other side causing the twists to slide to the middle, forming a shape that resembles a bow tie. These twists are what will slide up to pull out the hair.

Pull Against Hair Growth

Decide where you want to begin on the brow. Always pull in the opposite direction of hair growth or the thread will not be able to grab the hair.

Begin Threading

Place one side of the loop over brow where you want to remove hair. Pull with the opposite hand by moving thumb and forefinger away from each other, causing the twisted part of the thread to slide up or down and pull hair out. Repeat wherever hair removal is necessary.
