Search Engines & Keyword Problems
You're looking for information on a topic and you decide to use a search engine to help you optimize your research. However, what you get is a list of websites, some relevant and others, not at all. This is one of the most common problems associated with search engines and keywords. Even if a user develops an efficient ability to use search engine tools, the websites that contain the relevant information may not be utilizing the search engine to their advantage.

Images and Tables
-
Many search engines browse your website content for relevance. The material they browse must be in HTML text format, which means that images, flash files, Java applets and other non-text content are not visible to the search engine. For example, if you have a large image that is the first bit of information displayed on your website, a search engine is likely to dismiss it because it doesn't contain the relevant words located in within the first 500 words, because the image is taking up this space. The same problem applies to tables.
Link Structure
-
Another common problem is the search engine's ability to access your websites crawlable link structure. The crawlable link structure indicates the navigation path of your website which might contain relevant information needed by the search engine. The search engine spiders navigate through all the pages of a website, but if they cannot be accessed, then the link structure is ignored, leaving out potentially useful and relevant information. This is due to the fact that many sites tend to forget to redirect or link pages back to the home page, creating a navigatable linking structure for all the pages on the website.

Search Engine Optimization
-
Keywords help the search engine determine what information you are looking for. But often, they will combine keywords or use just some of the key words to display websites. The results will include a lot of material that is irrelevant to what the user was looking for. Search engine optimization (SEO) refers to the website creator's ability to drive traffic to their website by creating effective tags and key words that will draw users to her website through search engines. Website developers can utilize Google's Webmaster Tool, a free tool that produces a detailed report on the site's ability to drive traffic based on SEO.
