Do Multiple Chains Need to Be Cut the Same Length for a Pendant Necklace?
You can use multiple chains in a variety of ways when making a pendant necklace. Whether you need to cut the chains the same length depends on the look you want to achieve.

Multi-chain Necklaces
-
If you cut multiple chains the same length, you can create a rope effect by twisting them. If you cut the chains different lengths, you can hang a single pendant on the longest one, leaving the shorter chains loose. Alternatively, you can hang pendants on more than one of the chains. Including longer and shorter chains with a small clasp at the end of each also allows you to wear your necklace in different ways.
Considerations
-
Jump rings (small rings used to connect jewelry elements together) must be large enough to fit all the ends of the chains. When making a convertible necklace (one that can be worn at different lengths), your clasps will be visible when it's worn loose, so choose fastenings that will look right when undone.

Variations
-
As well as chains, consider incorporating other elements into your multi-strand necklace. Strands of beads or leather thongs included among the chains can add visual interest and make the necklace sturdier.
