Small wine racks are perfect on countertops or tables. Small wine racks are perfect for those with a smaller wine collections or limited space. Shopsmith Hands On offers a classical plan for a wine rack that fits up to eight bottles and can be made out of any hard wood. Better Homes & Gardens also has a free pattern for balancing wine stands that hold one bottle each.
Medium Racks

For those with a bit more substantial collections and the space to show them off, a midsize wine rack is the way to go. Wine Intro provides a free plan to create an inexpensive wine rack that can hold up to 28 bottles and is made of PVC pipe and wood frames. Ron Hazelton offers up a free plan for a cherry wood wine rack that can accommodate 15 bottles, but can be expanded as your collection grows.

A more impressive and indulgent wine stash needs a large rack with a little room to grow. Dempsey Woodworking provides a plan for a wine rack with capacity for 172 bottles. The website also shows alternatives to the original plan.
