Level Two Qualifications in Hair Dressing
The United Kingdom uses a level system to denote a hairdresser's qualifications. There are three levels. Each allows a person to work in a hair salon but limits what the hairdresser is permitted to do. To work as a junior hairdresser, you must have National Vocational Qualifications, or NVQ, level two qualifications.

NVQ Level Two
-
Whereas NVQ level one is an introduction to hairdressing, level two covers the basics of hairdressing. Students learn how to cut, color, perm and style hair. They also practice client consultations and discuss safety issues.
Entry Qualifications
-
Depending on the school, you can either pass NVQ level one or have a grade of at least a D in four General Certificates of Secondary Education for entry into level two. Some schools interview a potential student, looking for an outgoing personality, good hygiene and a desire to work in the hairdressing field.

Length
-
The length of time it takes to complete level two varies. Some schools offer full-time classes that enable students to complete the course in one year. Other schools offer only part-time programs that take two years to finish. Students are assessed throughout the course for competency in the curriculum before passing.
