How Do I Pass the CDL Road Test in Minnesota?
Individuals interested in obtaining a commercial driver's license (CDL) in Minnesota will have to go through a series of tests before hitting the road.

Knowledge and Skills Tests
-
Taking the knowledge tests are the first step in getting your CDL. An individual vying for a CDL will first have to take the knowledge tests. The type of CDL and endorsements will determine any required additional tests. The skill test is broken into three parts, the pre-trip inspection, the basic control skills and the road test.
Pre-Trip and Basic Controls
-
Look closely, you'll want to make sure your vehicle is completely operational and you have all your emergency equipment. The purpose of the pre-trip inspection is to make sure your vehicle is safe to drive. During the exam you will be asked to explain to the examiner what you are inspecting and the purpose of the inspection. The basic controls test is meant to evaluate the driver's ability to control the vehicle. This includes three parts: straight backing, offset backing and alley dock backing.
