Corporations donate funds or services to charitable organizations.

Corporations are often solicited to provide charitable donations or sponsorship for a variety of causes. Most corporations have policies in place that indicate the circumstances under which donations will be made and for what type of cause.

  1. Significance

    • The purpose of a corporate donation policy is to outline specific guidelines for the charitable giving of corporations. A corporate donation policy allows corporations to remain socially responsible and fair in their philanthropic activities.

    Characteristics

    • A corporate donation policy includes information such as donation objectives, funding priorities and the types of organizations in which the company will focus its support efforts. For example, a corporation may include in its donation policy that charitable giving will only be provided to organizations that are a part of the health-care industry or to organizations in a geographic region. Further, the donation policy describes the types of support the company will provide such as financial contributions, volunteer work or products and services.

    Proposals

    • Corporate donation policies define the process by which an organization can request funding. The proposal process allow organizations seeking contributions or sponsorship the opportunity to carefully identify and solicit the support of companies that are most inclined to donate to a particular cause. This increases the organization's chances of receiving the desired charitable gift.
