Peace lily flowers that die back must be removed.

Peace lilies have large, dark-green pointed leaves with a long stem protruding from the base of the leaves. At the end of the stem is a pale green flower that turns creamy white as it flourishes and matures. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Growing

    • Peace lilies need low light and do very well in corners away from windows and direct sun. These plants need to have moist soil, but wet soil will cause the plant to die. Leaves and flowers will start to wilt and turn brown.

    Why Prune

    • Flowers that have died back need to be removed right away. Dead leaves that remain on the plant take away energy and nutrients from the rest of the plant. New leaf and flower growth is smaller on peace lilies that have dead leaves and flowers draining the plant of energy and nutrition.

    Pruning

    • The peace lily flowers that die back should be cut with scissors or small pruning shears. The flower stem is cut at the bottom base of the plant as far down as pruning shears can go without damaging the leaves and other flowers.
