Specs for a 1979 Ford Straight 6 300

Modern automobile engines use a bevy of electronics to operate over long periods of time. Not so with the Ford 300. Engineering and old-fashioned quality have given this engine a well deserved reputation as being both reliable and easy to maintain.

  1. History

    • The Ford 300 is an Inline 6 cylinder engine produced by the Ford Motor Company. Production ran from 1965 to 1996. During its 31-year run, the engine was widely utilized, not only in Ford F series trucks, but also in industrial equipment and delivery vehicles.

    Configuration

    • The Straight 6 300 included a 1 barrel carburetor until it was modified to use fuel injection in 1987. The designation "Straight 6" is derived from the 6 engine cylinders running in a "straight" line.

    Power

    • The engine produced from 101 to 170 horsepower, depending upon configuration and model year. The engine was also notable for producing a relatively large amount of torque--between 223 and 283 ft lbs, dependent on model year and configuration.
