Traditional Bangladeshi Meals

Traditional food from Bangladesh, a country in South Asia, often combines a mix of aromatic spices. Fish, lentils and rice are food staples in Bangladesh. Speciality meals include curries and tikya kebabs, and desserts are typically milky and sweet. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Fish

    • With vast areas of wetland, fish is traditionally eaten every day in Bangladesh. Fresh water fish such as rohu, catfish and prawns are popular and are either served fried with rice, steamed in banana leaves or made into curries.

    Lentils

    • Daal, a thick stew made from pulses and lentils, is a mainstay of Bangladeshi meals. Daal will often accompany other curries such as masala, Korm, Bhoona and Tandoori meat and flatbreads.

    Sweets

    • The final course of a traditional Bangladeshi meal will consist of some kind of sweetmeat made from concentrated milk, sugar, flour and ghee.
