Advanced Motorcycle Training
Advanced motorcycle training offers the experienced rider practical exercises to improve his existing skill set. Subjects covered in an advanced motorcycle training course may include mental strategy, traction, risk management, braking, cornering and swerving techniques. Many courses include a motorcycle skill workbook, with explanations and examples of the techniques and concepts covered in the course, and blank pages for self-evaluation.

A variety of advanced motorcycle training courses are available throughout the United States. An alternative option to attending classes is Jerry Palladino's comprehensive "Ride Like a Pro" series of DVDs and books, based on police motorcycle officer training.
Enrollment Criteria

At least one year or 1,000 miles of riding experience is normally the minimum requirement to enroll in an advanced rider course. Many courses require riders to bring their own motorcycle; an approved helmet, a leather or denim jacket, full-fingered gloves, over-ankle boots and goggles are required in some states.

Course Duration

Training courses consist of two or three days of advanced maneuvers on the motorcycle, with an in-class lesson on motorcycle safety usually preceding the riding portion. One-day courses are available at various training sites.
Cost

Advanced motorcycle training courses range from $200 to $400; attendees often receive a diploma upon completion. Private classes are also available; prices will vary accordingly.
