Public housing provide decent and safe rental housing for low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) distributes the necessary funds to local housing agencies to administer the program.

    • Public housing management training helps managers of the local public housing agencies improve their knowledge and management of public housing as well as ensure they meet HUD operational requirements and standards.

    Features

    • Training will cover key areas such as an overview of HUD regulations, best practices in nondiscrimination, enforcement of lease agreements and supervisory best practices. In addition, trainees learn to use the Public Housing Assessment (PHA) System to increase their agency performance.

    Significance

    • According to Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), there are approximately 1.3 million households living in public housing units which are funded by HUD. Trained managers are needed to ensure that these households get the maximum value possible for the federal dollars allocated.
