The Asian longhorned beetle made its way to North America accidentally. According to the USDA, the beetle arrived in cargo from various Asian countries. Since then it has become a threat to many of the country's trees.
Function

The Asian longhorned beetle feeds on and kills trees like the birch, ash, maple, elm and more, according to the University of Vermont. As of 2010, the beetle has been seen in New York, Illinois and New Jersey.

Prevention/Solution

If an Asian longhorned beetle infestation is suspected, the area is quarantined to stop the spread. Infected trees are removed and destroyed to prevent the beetle from infecting other trees.
