Indications on Whether a Website Is Easy to Maintain & Update
Websites can be updated to reflect modern styles and maintained to reflect the current information of your company or organization. Websites that are more complex will generally take more time and be more challenging to maintain.
-
Code Complexity
-
If many coding languages were used to build a site--such as PHP, JavaScript or others--the site may not be very easy to maintain or update, depending on the complexity of the code.
CSS files
-
If the website derives its style from cascading style sheets (CSS), the site will probably be easier to update. You can link many Web pages to a single style sheet, meaning you will only need to update one style sheet, rather than each individual page.
-
Organization growth
-
Rapidly growing companies or organizations will require more work to update and maintain their websites because the content may quickly become outdated; also, the websites of companies that offer online commerce and sales will be more difficult to update than information-rich websites, due to constantly changing products.
Content Management Systems
-
If the website uses a content management system (CMS) such as Joomla!, Drupal or Wordpress, the site will be more easily updated and managed. The site manager also does not need to know much about hypertext markup language (HTML) or CSS with a CMS in place
