It is inevitable that your dog will attract fleas and ticks when he plays outside. However, pet owners have options available when deciding what kind of repellent they want to use to ward off those biting insects.

Significance

When fighting fleas, you will likely need to engage in a multi-step process of removing fleas from in the house, removing them from your pets and killing off the immature larvae. Meanwhile, fighting ticks is much easier because you only need to treat your dog with repellent.

Types

When controlling fleas on your pet, you can choose a once-a-month topical solution, sprays, dips, flea fighting shampoos or have your pet wear a flea collar. Meanwhile, there similar options available for fighting ticks, including a powder, but they are generally messy.

Considerations

According to Pet Education, the once-a-month topical solution is the most effective and easiest to use. There are even some products available to kill both fleas and ticks.
