Information on Using Cookie Cutters for Gifts

Information on Using Cookie Cutters for Gifts thumbnail
Choose holiday shapes if you're giving a gift for Christmas.

You can incorporate cookie cutters into a gift for people who like baking. Use the cutters either as part of a gift or to make a personalized gift. Buy new cutters in decorative shapes, or check the local antique shop for vintage cookie cutters.

  1. Cookie Kit

    • Buy a container of gourmet cookie dough or make a batch of your own special recipe of cookie dough. Keep the dough refrigerated until just before giving it. Put the dough container in a gift bag. Using ribbon, attach a card with baking information and two or three cookie cutters. The cutters are decorative and the recipient can use them to make the cookies.

    Make Candles

    • "Martha Stewart" magazine suggests making your own candles using cookie cutters. Choose shapes that are special for the person you're giving the gift to, like a dog-shaped candle for a dog lover. Wrap the cutter in masking tape and coat the inside with petroleum jelly. Melt beeswax in a pan on the stove, stirring constantly. Place the cutter on a piece of foil and slowly pour in the melted wax. Lower a tea-light wick into the candle and let the candles harden. This can take up to two hours. Pop out the candles and wipe them off. Package four to six candles in a pretty box and give them away.

    Ornaments

    • This gift will be most interesting if you use antique cookie cutters. You may be able to find cutters in shapes that you won't find in stores today. Cut a length of ribbon for each ornament, using a variety of colors and widths of ribbon. Tie the ribbon around the top of the cookie cutter to make a hanging ornament for a Christmas tree or to hang in a window.
