How to Remove Pancake Syrup From Upholstery
Maybe you let the little ones eat breakfast in front of the TV, or perhaps you got a little messy yourself. Either way, syrup stains on upholstery can be ugly, sticky messes. Luckily, you don't have to toss your furniture because of a little syrup, and you don't have to spend a fortune on expensive cleaning products. You can remove the syrup yourself quickly and easily with a few simple techniques.
Things You Will Need
- Spoon
- Bowls
- Sponge
- Clean cloths
- Soft-bristled brush
- 1 tbsp. dish washing detergent or 1 ounce oxygen bleach stain remover
When not completely removed from your furniture, the syrup soaks into the upholstery fibers and hardens. During this process, it will attract and hold onto other dirt and debris resulting in further stain and discoloration. Treat the pancake syrup spill as quickly as possible, taking the time to make sure you remove the syrup from the surface and fibers.

Scoop up excess pancake syrup from your furniture with a spoon. Remove as much of the syrup as possible for easier stain removal. Discard the syrup by rinsing it down the drain.

If you are using detegernt then mix 1 tbsp of detergent and 2 cups of warm water into a bowl. If you are using bleach stain remover, mix the powdered oxygen bleach stain remover with warm water in a bowl or other container. Read the instructions on the brand of cleaner you are using to see how much cleaner to use. Most recommend approximately 1 ounce of bleach stain remover per quart of water.

Dab some of the liquid mixture onto a clean, dry rag.

Spot check your upholstery by dabbing the mixture onto an area that isn't very visible (such as on the underside of the piece of furniture). Wait about 10 minutes to make sure there is no discoloration. If the color hasn't been harmed, proceed to the next step.

Sponge the liquid cleaning mixture onto the stain until the area is saturated. Work from the outside of the stain in towards the middle, and rinse your sponge frequently. Allow the mixture to stay on the area about 15 minutes.

Rinse the solution from your upholstery with a water-dampened cloth. Sponge the site of the pancake syrup spill on your upholstery, rinsing the cloth often before continuing to sponge until the solution is gone.

Press a dry cloth into your upholstery to wick up moisture from the stain removal process. Allow your furniture to air dry fully.

Brush your upholstery fabric at the site of the stain, while still damp, if the upholstery has pile. Brush with the pile while the fabric is damp and against the pile once it dries.
Tip
Use an electric fan or warm air from an open window to aid in the drying process of your upholstery.
Warning
Rubbing and scrubbing a pancake syrup stain will likely spread the syrup further into the fibers.
