The Best Place for Indoor Plants

The right location helps your houseplants thrive.

Houseplants do more than beautify a room: Plants can elevate your mood, improve air quality and provide food. When selecting a houseplant location, consider the ambient light, temperature and humidity of the room.

Light

Place low-light plants in northern windows. Southern-facing windows offer the most sunlight, followed by the windows on the west side of your home.

Temperature

To avoid over-drying, do not place any houseplants in front of or over a heat vent. Tender tropicals should be placed in rooms where the temperature stays above 55 degrees.

Humidity

Tropical plants thrive in sunny bathrooms where warmer temperatures and high humidity mimic their native environment. Rooms heated with wood stoves or forced air heat may be drier than normal, but succulents and plants with low moisture needs will adapt easily.
