Enterprise Vs. Standard Edition for Windows

The most current version of Microsoft Windows, Windows 7, comes in several different configurations. Two of the most popular are Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows Home Premium. Typically, the Enterprise edition is available to large corporate buyers.

  1. Windows 7 Home Premium

    • The standard edition of Windows 7 is Windows Home Premium. This version of Windows provides a user with most basic computer functions. Running games and productivity software, basic home networking and Internet connectivity are all supported in this version of Windows. Windows Home Starter is available for 32-bit processors only.

    Windows 7 Enterprise Edition

    • Windows 7 Enterprise is available to large corporate customers. It offers many additional features over other versions of Windows 7. It is available in 32-bit or 64-bit versions. The Enterprise edition offers additional security features as well as features designed to better interface with corporate networks. One such feature, Sharepoint, is used to enhance communication on business teams. Another, Direct Access, offers business users the option of working remotely.

    Which Version Is Right for Me?

    • If you are a home computer user, Windows 7 Home Premium should more than meet your needs. If you are a buyer for a large corporation, you may want to evaluate Windows 7 Enterprise.
