The Bartender Drink Guide

You can make the perfect appletini using a bartender's guide.

A bartender's guide provides all the information a bartender needs to know to tend bar successfully, everything from obscure drink recipes to drink-making techniques. Bartenders guides are available in print and online. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Recipes

    • A good bartender's guide will contain recipes for hundreds, even thousands of drinks. Usually recipes are categorized by the type of liquor they contain. Sometimes bartenders guides group types of drinks together with sections for tropical drinks, frozen drinks, coffee drinks and so on.

    Techniques

    • Bartenders guides give instructions on techniques used to make drinks, including how to stir, build, shake or muddle a drink. They also supply tips on things like how to use ice and cream, how to tell how much liquor you're pouring, and even the rules for various drinking games.

    Bar Glassware and Measurements

    • Every alcoholic drink should be served in the proper glass, and a bartenders guide spells out which glass goes with which drink, from champagne flutes and Tom Collins glasses to beer mugs and shot glasses. A bartender's guide also lays out the ways liquor is measured, so you can tell your jigger from your splash.
