Finding the Perfect Egg
-
Assortment of choices Duck eggs are larger then chicken eggs and smaller than goose eggs. Choose whatever type of egg is readily available, but take into consideration that a smaller egg might be harder to work with.
Preparing the Egg
-
Wash the egg in warm soapy water and pat dry. With a pin, tap gently on one end to pierce a hole. Create another hole at the other end in the same manner. Then blow out the white and yolk into a bowl. Rinse the empty egg with a mild bleach solution and dry thoroughly.

Decorating the Egg
-
Using wax to create a design To decorate the egg, acrylic craft paint is a good choice because it covers well and dries quickly. Decide on a design by sketching out some ideas beforehand and paint the egg. For drying the egg, make a drying rack by putting some finishing nails into a 2-by-4 inch block of wood spaced so that there's room to dry several eggs at a time. After painting, coat with clear polyurethane. Clear nail polish also works.
Finishing the Egg Ornament
-
A beautiful Christmas ornament After painting and sealing the egg, take a long thin needle and push a ribbon through the egg. Tie the bottom end into a knot and the top into a loop. Real eggs are fragile, so place them in a sturdy box surrounded in tissue to store them or if giving them as a gift.
