Does Soaking Candles in Salt Water Help Them Burn Longer?
Candles that burn longer save money, and less dripping means fewer messes and potential fabric stains on clothing, tablecloths or carpets. While some candles are advertised for their longer burn times, even the life of cheap candles can be extended easily and for pennies. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Function
-
Sodium chloride or simple table salt can be used to lengthen burning time of candles and prevent dripping. It's important to use a heavy salt solution for this purpose.
Process
-
To prevent dripping with candles, soak candles in a salt and water solution for at least two hours, turning occasionally or weighing down the candles in the saltwater.
-
Size
-
Place about a half cup of salt in a 9 by 13 inch container and fill with water, then place the candles in the container.
Considerations
-
It's important to allow the candles to dry thoroughly after soaking them in the saltwater solution before burning them. Once dried, the candles should burn longer than they would have otherwise, and dripping should be eliminated.
