Are Police Officers Required to Turn on Sirens?
Every police agency has its own policy regarding the use of police sirens. Generally, sirens are used to alert the public of a fast approaching police car. The use of sirens in many cases is left to the police officer's discretion.

First off theses articles must pertain to the geographical area of where this website is based? "CODE 3's" etc... Never used that terminology when I was on the job... Second in each states V.T.L. (Vehicle Traffic Law) it states that Law Enforcement / Volunteer Firefighters/ Firefighters are an exception to the rule while on duty. Law Enforcement Offers my have to violate certain traffic laws. The V.T.L clearly states that. Also a radio call my come over for you to call Precinct or Station House. I'm not pulling over to use a pay phone... LOL...

I would like to see the procedures about cops always on the cellphone while driving. Not a bluetooth, not a hands-free device. Yet , in most states talking on cell while driving is prohibited. On the other hand, I would understand if they use cellphones to avoid radio transmissions, that you can pick up with your scanner, But still, use bluetooth or a hands-free device? Other thing I have noticed - I know, there are sirenless calls to attend to, like suicidal, or not to scare the criminals off, but - I have seen numerous OTHER JURISDICTION marked car cops speeding , plenty of times...
