The popularity of texting has given rise to a whole new generation of slang, mostly using initials and abbreviations to communicate an entire idea with a few letters. More than likely, you would not want to receive TTYN as it means Talk To You Never.

History

On Paris Hilton's reality show, My New BFF, TTYN gained notoriety as the catch phrase Hilton used in dismissing contestants. Often she gave a contestant a reason for her dismissal and then would say, "Talk To You Never" if her experience with the contestant had been negative in any way.

Function

TTYN is used as a dismissive phrase that is meant to convey negativity on behalf of the sender. TTYN is the opposite of TTYS, which stands for Talk To You Soon.
