The Torque & Horsepower Specs for the 2003 Chevy Truck 4.3 Engine

A member of the Vortec family of engines, the 4.3-liter Chevrolet engine commonly goes by the name 4300 Vortec. Chevy placed this engine in several vehicles in 2003: the S-10, Blazer, Astro Van, Express 1500 and Silverado 1500.

  1. S-10

    • In the 2003 S-10, the 4.3-liter option was an upgrade to the standard engine. It produces 190 horsepower at 4,400 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 250 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm.

    Blazer

    • The 4.3-liter Vortec was the only engine available in the 2003 Blazer. It produces the same numbers as the S-10: 190 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 250 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm.

    Astro

    • Chevy placed the 4.3-liter engine in both the two- and all-wheel-drive Astro Vans. As with the S-10 and Blazer, both vans produce 190 horsepower (hp) at 4,400 rpm and 250 foot-pounds of torque at 2,800 rpm.

    Express 1500

    • The 4.3-liter is the base engine in the Express 1500 van. It produces more horsepower---200 hp at 4,400 rpm---to handle heavy loads. The torque remains the same: 250 foot-lbs. at 2,800 rpm.

    Silverado 1500

    • The Silverado 1500 uses the 4.3-liter as its standard engine. It produces 200 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 260 foot-lbs. of torque at 2,800 rpm.
