What Makes Gummy Bears Sticky?

Gummy bears are sweet, gooey and addictive.

Hans Riegel created the forerunner of the gummy bear back in 1922. They were called "Dancing Bears" and were made of fruit gum. Haribo confectionary company of Bonn, Germany, still makes gummy bears today. Does this Spark an idea?

Ingredients
- Gummy bear candy is made from starch, gelatin, sugar and corn syrup, which are sticky substances individually. Combined, the formula for gummy bear candy results in a viscous concoction that, when dried, results in the gooey, sticky, gummy texture so beloved by gummy bear aficionados.
Heat
- When gummy bears are left in a warm environment, their structure begins to break down, bringing out the qualities of their individual ingredients and becoming stickier and more pliable.
Moisture
- As with heat, adding moisture to gummy bears will also break down their structure. Moisture will cause them to dissolve and increase their sticky factor. This is why gummy bears cling to every tooth surface as soon as they enter your mouth.
