Number of Cylinders
-
The 2007 Audi A3 receives an average combined (city and highway) mpg of 24, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The six-cylinder, 2007 BMW 328i, on the other hand, has an average mpg of 21. Finally, the Porche Cayenne Turbo from 2007, which has an eight-cylinder engine, gets an average of 14 mpg.
Amount of Liters
-
The "liter" figure in a car's engine is an expression of the amount of air the pistons can inhale. Because air intake is mixed with gasoline to burn for power, the more liters an engine can take in, the more powerful the vehicle. More powerful engines usually burn more gasoline. The 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL550 has a 5.5-liter engine and receives an average of 16 mpg. In contrast, the 2.5-liter 2007 Volkswagen Jetta has an average 22 mpg.

Conclusion
-
The average mpg of a German car is 19. This number is based on 2007 models, encompassing a wide range sports cars, sedans and coupes. After adding the estimates given by the EPA, the sum was divided by the number of estimates given to arrive at the average of 19 mpg.
