What Size Humidifer Do I Need for My Apartment?

The right humidifier depends mostly on the size of your apartment.

The primary considerations for the size of humidifer for an apartment are the number of rooms and their size and the amount of money you are willing to spend.

Types of Humidifiers

There are three types of humidifiers: tabletop, console and in-duct units. Tabletop models will humidify one room. Console units will cover a larger area, and in-duct units an entire apartment or house.

Tabletop Humidifiers

Tabletop humidifiers are the least expensive but also humidify the smallest space. These units are designed for use in one room and require frequent tank refills.

Console Humidifiers

Console humidifiers are used to humidify one or two rooms and can be placed unobtrusively in one of the rooms. Console units also require refilling, but due to their size, not as often as tabletop units.

In-duct humidifiers

In-duct humidifiers attach to your forced-air heating unit to humidify the entire living space. These are the most expensive because they usually require professional installation but they don't require refilling because they are attached to the water supply. These units may be problematic for single-apartment use.
