My Powered Subwoofer Only Works When the Stereo Volume is Turned Up High

Volume problems with a subwoofer can sometimes be quickly remedied.

Hearing a subwoofer only when the volume on your stereo is turned up high could be the result of the wiring, a setting on your stereo or damage to the subwoofer itself.

Loose or Damaged Wires

Check the wires going from your subwoofer to your stereo for any frays or splits, and make sure the wiring is secured tightly to both the stereo and the subwoofer. Be sure to check both the connecting ends of the wires and their corresponding inputs for any damage as well.

Volume Settings

Check the stereo itself to make sure the bass isn't turned all the way down or that some form of "quiet mode" hasn't been enabled that may be deliberately cutting volume to the subwoofer.

Blown Subwoofer

Inspect the subwoofer for any cracks or tears that may indicate it is blown. Only being able to hear a speaker when used at a high volume is often an indicator that it has been damaged.
