How do I Make Patterns for Iron-On Rhinestone Transfers?

Adding a touch of glitz to your clothes and accessories is easy. As well as pre-made motifs, you can create iron-on rhinestone transfers with your own designs.

  1. Tools and Materials

    • To create your own iron-on rhinestone designs, you will first need a sketch or picture of your motif. You'll also need rhinestones, transfer paper, a PTFE sheet (heat-distributing plastic sheet), tweezers or a rhinestone perfect positioner (a device that lets you pick up your stones and place them exactly where you want them) and an iron.

    Method

    • You can sketch your pattern by hand or use a drawing package such as MS Paint. You can find lots of free motifs online. Cut some transfer paper a little bigger than your design, remove the backing and place it sticky side up over your image. Place the stones on the film using the tweezers or positioner.

Working on a hard surface, put the film onto your item sticky side down. Cover with the PTFE sheet, iron and allow to cool then take off the film.

    Warning

    • Keep your iron and rhinestones out of the reach of young children. Irons can inflict severe burns and rhinestones can pose a choking hazard.
