How do I Make Patterns for Iron-On Rhinestone Transfers?

Adding a touch of glitz to your clothes and accessories is easy. As well as pre-made motifs, you can create iron-on rhinestone transfers with your own designs.

Tools and Materials

To create your own iron-on rhinestone designs, you will first need a sketch or picture of your motif. You'll also need rhinestones, transfer paper, a PTFE sheet (heat-distributing plastic sheet), tweezers or a rhinestone perfect positioner (a device that lets you pick up your stones and place them exactly where you want them) and an iron.

Method

You can sketch your pattern by hand or use a drawing package such as MS Paint. You can find lots of free motifs online. Cut some transfer paper a little bigger than your design, remove the backing and place it sticky side up over your image. Place the stones on the film using the tweezers or positioner.

Working on a hard surface, put the film onto your item sticky side down. Cover with the PTFE sheet, iron and allow to cool then take off the film.

Warning

Keep your iron and rhinestones out of the reach of young children. Irons can inflict severe burns and rhinestones can pose a choking hazard.
