Integrated Education and Training System

The South African government promotes technology education in schools through integration of academic and technical/vocational learning systems.

Single Qualification Structure

Under South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) has been set to link separate education and training fields together.

New Curriculum Framework

Named Curriculum 2005 (C2005) after the year of its implementation, it is the first single curriculum for all South Africans. A nine-year compulsory education is one of the key facets of the new curriculum.

Curriculum Transformation

Under the new C2005, new learning areas have become increasingly difficult to attract necessary attention and resources in institutions.

Loss of NGO Support

NGOs who were crucial supporters in technology and teacher education have been withdrawing their support significantly.
