The Average Length of a Female Femur Bone
The femur, also known as the thigh bone, is the largest and longest bone in human anatomy. According to PBS, the femur is the second strongest bone in the human body.

Anatomy
-
The femur begins at the hip joint and connects to the knee, forming the support structure of the thigh. The length that connects either end of the femur is the shaft. The shaft of the femur bone is roughly cylindrical and strong enough to support 30 times the weight of the average human body, writes PBS.
Length
-
According to Frederic Martini, author of "Human Anatomy," the average human female femur bone is 17 to 18 inches in length and 1 inch in diameter. This is slightly shorter than the average male's femur at 18 to 19 inches in length and 1.2 inches in diameter.

Height Approximation
-
It is possible to approximate a human's height by the length of the femur bone, says PBS. The generalized calculation for this approximation is to multiply the length of the femur bone by 3.75. The resulting number is the subject's estimated height in inches.
