True blue tulips do not exist. Blue tulips are either dyed blue, or are a hybrid of a lilac or blue violet, according to the Online Flowers Guide. The most common colors of tulips are red, orange, red-white and purple.

Care for blue tulips as you would any other tulip. Plant the bulb root-side down in the ground before the first snow; expect blooming in the spring.
History

In the mid-17th century in The Netherlands, there was a "tulip mania" where tulips became unreasonably expensive. The eventual crash came when supply outgrew demand, and the government created trading restrictions for the flowers.
