Checklist for the Treatment & Evaluation of Autism

Checklist for the Treatment & Evaluation of Autism thumbnail
The autism treatment evaluation checklist benefits parents, teachers and therapists.

The autism treatment evaluation checklist (ATEC) is an online, free evaluation system of autism treatments developed by the Autism Research Institute. The ATEC is important, as several systems exist to diagnose autism, but not to evaluate autism treatments.

  1. Scoring

    • There are four subscales listed on the ATEC. Each subscale has a score, along with the overall score of the entire evaluation. Once the checklist is complete, the scores are immediately available for viewing. The higher the scores, the more impaired the individual.

    Data

    • The ATEC is available at the Autism Research Institute website. The saved data assists the Autism Research Institute to develop norms, however the data of the individual identities entered into the checklist stays confidential.

    Recommendations

    • The Autism Research Institute recommends completing the ATEC six to 10 times over a two- to three-month period. Some treatments require a month to see results, while others a week. Completing the evaluation several times is effective in determining accurate results.
